Overview

Comac, the official solution for the mechanical study of common support poles

Comac is the solution for the mechanical study of complete networks of low-voltage (LV), telephone, video-communication and fibre-optic structures. It makes it possible to study a complete network, with the option of including the characteristics of around fifty common support poles.

A common support pole (SAC) is a pole that simultaneously carries several types of cables: LV power lines, telephone or video-communication cables, and fibre-optic cables. A mechanical study of a SAC is mandatory before any cable is added to an existing support.

Comac is supplied automatically with Camélia but can also be purchased on its own. The solution is part of two Sogelink business offers: the Network Operations offer (for network asset managers) and the Telecommunications Project Design offer (for fibre operators and design offices).

User profile

A tool designed for two user profiles

  • Network operators (Enedis, electrification syndicates, local authorities): To manage assets and meet anti-damage regulatory obligations. Comac makes it possible to verify that existing supports can accommodate new cables (fibre, LV, telecom) safely.
  • Design offices and telecom operators: For feasibility and deployment studies for overhead fibre-optic cabling on existing infrastructure.

Around 50 types of common support poles are built into the Comac library.

Features

Comac features

  • Integration of information from field site surveys
  • Pole numbers, climate assumptions, year of line construction
  • Network plan with electric cable cross-sections
  • Support types: materials (concrete, wood or metal), shape (rectangular, square, cylindrical…), installation configuration (twinned, braced, guyed…)
  • Import of field surveys in Excel format

  • Analysis of a common support pole shared between LV power network lines, telephone / video-communication lines and/or fibre-optic lines
  • Calculation of the mechanical strength of the support under the regulatory climate assumptions (wind, frost, temperature)
  • Library of ~50 types of common support poles (concrete, wood, metal, various shapes and configurations)
  • Verification of the mechanical strength of the conductors and cables present
  • Consideration of installation constraints: twinned, braced, guyed
  • Real-time feasibility check: immediate feedback on the support’s capacity to accommodate the new cable

  • Automatic creation and generation of the study file for approval
  • Field survey information in Excel format
  • Mechanical study including a photo of each support
  • Medium-scale plan and location plan
  • Generation of a calculation report enforceable before the reviewing authorities

  • Quick study for the installation of a telecom service cable
  • Compatible with copper, coaxial or fibre-optic cables
Benefits

Why choose Comac?

  • Official solution

Benefit from the official solution required for mechanical studies of Low Voltage (LV) supports. Comac is the market reference for SAC studies in France, used by network operators, electrification syndicates and fibre design offices.

  • Ease of use

Enjoy the simplicity of “field” data integration. Data collected on a smartphone can be used directly in Comac to launch the mechanical study.

  • File automation

Automatically create and generate the study file for approval. A complete file (field survey, mechanical study with photos, location plan) is produced in a few clicks. This file is directly enforceable before the concessionaires’ reviewing departments.
