Camélia is the reference solution for sizing overhead HV/LV power lines, approved under U.T.E 11L102 and compatible with NF C11-201. It is designed for electrical engineering consultancies, electrification syndicates, network operators, and any organisation carrying out mechanical strength studies of overhead lines in France.
Alongside Eras (graphical studies of electrical networks), Camélia covers the mechanical calculation side: sizing of poles, crossarms, conductors and insulators in accordance with current rules. The two-way link with Eras ensures consistency between the study plan and the mechanical calculations, with no re-entry of data.
The Camélia suite includes 3 complementary modules: the Calculation Module (the core of the solution), the Profile Module (for rugged terrain) and the Comac Module (shared multi-network support poles). Comac is supplied automatically with Camélia but can also be purchased separately.
Two standards, one reference solution
- U.T.E 11L102: Approval from the Union Technique de l’Électricité for mechanical calculations of overhead lines. Camélia is one of the few solutions on the market to hold this official approval.
- NF C11-201: Compatibility with the French reference standard for overhead electrical power lines outside the generation and transmission domain.
- NF C11-201 : Compatibilité avec la norme française de référence pour les lignes aériennes d’énergie électrique extérieures au domaine de production et de transport.
What you need to know about HV/LV overhead line regulations
Overhead HV (medium voltage, 1 kV to 50 kV) and LV (low voltage, up to 1 kV) power lines are subject to strict regulations governing their design, mechanical sizing and maintenance.
Reference texts
- NF C11-201: French standard for public electricity distribution networks. It sets the rules for the design, construction and verification of overhead lines.
- U.T.E 11L102: Practical guide complementing standard NF C11-201, published by the Union Technique de l’Électricité. It specifies the mechanical calculation methods for overhead lines.
- Interministerial order of 17 May 2001: Technical conditions that electrical energy distribution networks must meet.
- Enedis and electrification syndicate best practices: Specifications specific to concession holders (STAC, sag standards, regional climatic assumptions).
Key challenges for engineering consultancies and syndicates
- Obligation to provide mechanical justification for each support, crossarm and conductor
- Verification of regulatory insulation distances under all climatic assumptions (wind, frost, temperature)
- Sizing of fall-arrest devices (DAC) and branch crossarms (ADC)
- Production of regulatory calculation files for approval by the reviewing authorities
Camélia holds U.T.E 11L102 approval and automatically integrates the NF C11-201 rules, enabling you to produce calculation files that meet regulatory requirements.
Camélia modules
Alongside Eras, it simplifies your graphical studies of overhead electrical networks.
- Automatic calculation of phase spacing, insulator string inclination and inversion, and branch supports
- Verification of the mechanical strength of conductors and insulators under climatic assumptions (wind, frost, temperature)
- Sizing of fall-arrest devices (DAC), crossarms and supports
- Verification of the line at actual span and under asymmetric frost
- Support for custom calculation rules based on the network operator’s specifications
- Calculation of MV lines using suspended and rigid techniques
- Calculation of LV lines
- Two-way link with Eras: export of line sections, re-integration of calculations into the graphical study
- Completes and finalises studies in rugged terrain (mountainous regions)
- Suited to large geographical areas where longitudinal profiles are essential
- Integration of terrain data to calculate sags and ground clearance distances
- Visualisation of the line’s longitudinal profile with terrain elevations and pole positions
- Regulatory verification of clearance distances according to NF C11-201 at every point of the profile
Supplied automatically with Camélia, also available as a standalone product.
- Analysis of a shared support pole between LV electrical lines, telephone / video-communication lines and/or fibre optic lines
- Integration of data from field surveys
- Automatic creation and generation of the study file for approval
- “Connection” module for telecom drop cables (copper, coaxial or fibre)
- Quick study for installing a telecom drop cable
- Calculation of the mechanical strength of the shared support in accordance with current regulations
Why choose Camélia?
-
Securing MV and LV networks
Calculate and size a medium and low voltage overhead line with the certainty that your calculations comply with regulations. Camélia takes into account all regulatory climatic assumptions (wind, frost, temperature) and verifies the mechanical strength of every component of the line.
-
Using a reference solution
Use software approved under U.T.E 11L102 and compatible with NF C11-201. U.T.E approval guarantees that the calculation methods implemented in Camélia are recognised and validated by the reference body of the French electricity sector. The calculation files produced by Camélia are directly enforceable before the reviewing authorities.
-
Productivity gains
Get a tool that adapts to different calculation assumptions. Calculation rules can be customised to each network operator’s specifications. The two-way link with Eras eliminates re-entry of data between the study plan and the mechanical calculations.
